Crisis Among Pets
At
a veterinarian conference in Orlando, Florida, a Vetrenarian asked
400 fellow veterinarians if they regularly brushed their own pets'
teeth. Only four said they did. With such dismal statistics, it's
no wonder oral disease is the No. 1 health problem among dogs
and cats over age three, afflicting up to 80 percent of these
pets in North America.
"It's
a huge issue that can cause serious health problems, major discomfort
and behavioral changes in your pet," Periodontal
disease is a serious deterioration of the gums and supporting bones
of the teeth. Left unchecked, the bacteria that cause this disease
can enter the bloodstream, causing infection to vital organs. Research
indicates that proper oral health may extend the life of your pet by two to five years!
Oral
disease in pets is largely preventable. February is National Pet Dental
Health Month.
Imagine what your own teeth would look like if you never brushed.
"Pet owners can save hundreds of dollars and spare their pets from
uncomfortable oral procedures simply by practicing pet oral health
care.
