Secrets to Dog Training Stop your Dog’s Behavior Problems!

What Is It?

Secrets to Dog Training presents an unusually detailed and thorough look at how to both prevent and deal with the more common problem behaviors exhibited by dogs. As the owner of a moderately troublesome mutt myself, I’ve spent a fair amount of time searching the Net for reliable resources on this topic, and I have to say that the level of knowledge and detail contained within the pages of this compendium is unusually exacting for an online book.

Not only that, but again, unusually for this medium the information at hand is actually (gasp!) reliable. Yes, that’s right – this one’s a whole new kettle of fish. Written by a seasoned dog trainer, you can relax in the knowledge that all the tips and advice included are tried and true, and come from Stevens’ real-life experiences as a professional dog trainer. There is also a straight-talking, easy to follow 30-minute downloadable video which provides real-life examples of doggy bad behavior along with solutions and remedies to change them.

What’s Covered?

There’s a pretty impressive range of information packed into this guide. It’s not just the problem behaviors that are covered: the book starts off with new-owner advice (how to choose a puppy/dog, the best places to get one from, breed information, puppy/dog-proofing your home, the first vet visit, housetraining, etc) and then moves on to the more advanced stuff: behavioral problems (such as aggression, dominance, chewing, digging, excessive barking, separation anxiety, to name a few), intermediate-level obedience commands, health-related dog problems (allergies, cat/dog coexistence, fleas, heatstroke, and so on), and advanced commands and tricks.

The 30-minute downloadable video gives a great insight into a dog’s quest to be the alpha dog and how you can prevent this. Its quick steps to stop bad behaviors such as housebreaking right through to leash pulling are so simple you can start trying them out on your dog straight away.
Particularly Good Parts

In addition to the contents listed above, there’s also a pretty impressive section on dog whispering, which in case you haven’t heard of it already is a method of dog training based on a philosophy of clear communication and mutual respect. It’s been popularized in recent years by Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer), and is becoming increasingly well-known as an alternative and humane method for disciplining and training your dog. Secrets to Dog Training has dedicated an entire section to dog whispering: Daniel Stevens explains the background of the technique, how to utilize voice and body language to your best advantage, and how to use the technique to calmly, assertively, and effectively correct and train your dog. Step-by-set instructions are included for the common commands (sit, down, come, stay, quiet, etc).

It makes for some pretty interesting reading and, after trying out the basics on my own recalcitrant pooch, I was amazed at how effective the techniques suggested are. Highly recommended!

I Love Freebies (Who Doesn’t?)

There’s just something about getting something for nothing. And, although my magpie-like acquisitiveness may have led me into less-than-productive purchases in the past, in this particular case I’m happy to report that Secrets to Dog Training hasn’t let me down: the freebies included with this book are not only numerous, they’re actually useful(wow!)

The book itself costs $39.95. For this price, you get a complete and detailed manual on training your dog, preventing and handling behavioral problems, and a whole bunch of general-knowledge tips and advice.

You also get a handful of practical freebies: four bonus books, dealing respectively with advanced housetraining how-to’s and troubleshooting (including both the crate- and paper-training methods); a detailed study on resolving canine aggression; how to effectively groom your dog (including information on coat care for specific breeds, dental care, and nail-clipping how-to’s); and finally, how to begin training your dog for security work.

As mentioned earlier, there is a bonus 30-minute downloadable video which takes a no-fuss approach to practical solutions for dog obedience issues.

Another particularly useful freebie: a personalized consultation with a member of the Kingdom of Pets team. If you’ve got an issue with your dog that you’d like some individual attention on, you can flick them a quick email and receive a personalized, thorough reply packed with expert advice and practical tips.

Secrets to Dog Training: A Thumbnail Sketch

Altogether, I’m pretty impressed with this package. I’ve owned dogs on and off my whole life, starting from when I was ten I would have thought that I was better-prepared than most to handle the quirks and caprices of my canine friends.

But since reading this book, I think my pre-Secrets to Dog Training self was (embarrassingly) perhaps a trifle more complacent than knowledgeable – I’ve learned more since reading this manual than I’ve picked up in a near-lifetime’s worth of contact with dogs (do you know how to stop your dog from tugging on the leash, without using a check-chain? Well, I do but until I got my hands on a copy of this book, I certainly didn’t!)

Several of the training techniques present a refreshingly common-sense, down-to-earth approach to dog training; others require a little more effort (take dog whispering as an example) but yield some pretty dramatic results. I liked the way that more than one training technique is detailed, to allow the reader to pick and choose the techniques that best suit themselves and their buy individual dogs.

I have no qualms in recommending this package to anyone who owns, or is thinking about owning, a dog. You don’t need to have a problem pet for the manual to be of assistance: there’s information included that’ll be useful to any and all dog owners.

In a nutshell: highly recommended.

These are the first dogs we ever had. They even came along on our honeymoon! They are long haired miniature dachshunds. Go for “Secrets For Dog Training”

Guest Blogger : By Sandra Scott

The Dachshund dog breed originated in Germany and dates back hundreds of years. They were mainly used to hunt badgers and hares (“Dachs” means badger in German). Also known as sausage dogs and wiener dogs, the name of the breed is often spelled as Daschund.

If you want to put an end to Dachshund aggression, barking, whining, or biting, I recommend that you take a look at Daschund Training.

It can be difficult to train Dachshunds due to their stubborn nature. For this reason, an inexperienced dog owner may find this dog breed a challenge to handle.

Dachshunds are boisterous, determined, curious, and amusing dogs that can be quite naughty some times. They need plenty of attention. If they don’t receive the attention they need, they will misbehave.

They are generally fine with other pets and children but they can be jealous and may be nippy and ill-tempered if they are over indulged. For this reason, they are probably better suited to a family with older children. Even so, Dachshunds are very devoted, loyal, and affectionate dogs.

A Dachshund that is left on his own may whine until is safe he has company. Separation anxiety is a common problem with Dachshunds, at which time they may relieve their stress by chewing household items. Their body language and personality give the impression that they are unaware of their fairly small size. As with a lot of small hunting dogs, Dachshunds are courageous and will challenge larger dogs.

Dachshunds are happy to play indoors which makes them an ideal dog breed for apartment dwellers or for homes with little or no back yard. Even so, they are lively, boisterous and playful dogs. It is therefore essential for them to be taken for regular walks to the park in order to get plenty of exercise and fresh air. Many Dachshund behavior problems are due to a lack of good exercise. If a Dachshund is kept indoors for several days without being able to work off his surplus energy, he is likely to act out.

Dachshunds can become overweight without regular exercise, which can lead to blood sugar, spine or heart health problems. Dachshunds are predisposed to having spinal issues, so exercises that could result in a spinal injury should be avoided. Children must be told that Dachshunds have a weak back and must not be treated roughly.

You should start housetraining your Dachshund as soon as he comes home. There are a number of ways to potty train your dog, such as on command, paper training, and crate training. No matter which training method you choose for your Dachshund, you must make sure that you are understanding and patient with your dog. There will be accidents and you should not expect him to get it right immediately.

Once you bring your new puppy home, you should also start obedience training. The training sessions for your Dachshund should be held frequently for short periods of time – such as, 3-4 times a day for 15 minutes maximum. The best time for training your puppy is before he eats. Similar to humans, dogs feel like resting after eating.

Do not expect your dog to learn good manners overnight. Due to your dog’s strong-minded nature, your Dachshund training will require plenty of patience from both you and your pooch. If you show plenty of love and patience, you and your family will get to enjoy a loyal and playful pet for many years.

My recommendation for Dachshund training is Secrets to Dog Training. This fantastic guide is the top selling dog training course for the 4th year in a row! You should definitely take a look at it at Daschund Training.

This is a little cut out from Adam’s newsletter. You can join from his page at dogproblems-com.

Our Top 5 Easiest Dog Breeds For Training: Is Your Dog One Of Them?
(By Adam G. Katz, Dogproblems-com )

The nice things about our approach to dog training is that we can train any dog, of any breed. However, there are some breeds that are even easier to train than most. Here is our current list of the top five dog breeds for easy training:

5. Australian Shepherd: A very smart breed, they learn new commands quickly and are very stable and almost never get defensive.

4. Doberman Pinscher: Definitely one of the most intelligent breeds. Find one with good ball/play drive and there is pretty much nothing this breed can’t do.

3. Border Collie: One of the ultimate working dog breeds, they have a tendency to be on the sensitive side. But if you recognize that, these dogs have a jaw dropping ability to work with their handler/owner.

2. Golden Retriever: These dogs are pretty much always happy and simply a joy to train. Even if where can i buy it’s drizzling outside, these dogs have an eternally ‘sunny’ disposition. They are also the most forgiving of breeds, which makes them excellent for the novice handler.

1. Poodle: With most dogs, it takes 5 or 6 times, before they understand a new command. With many Poodles, you can tell them twice and they ‘get it.’ One hundred years ago, they were used as circus dogs. Apparently, they’ve maintained much of their intelligence and trainability. We just love working with the Poodle.

Enjoy your dog,

I am going to vent once again. I don’t know why vs so many small dog owners allow their little terrors to run off leash.

For some reason many small-dog owners think it is funny and cute when their little “terrorists” run loose and challenge other leashed dogs, or generally run circles around other leashed dogs barking their little heads off.

People, if you are guilty of this, it’s not funny and it’s not safe! And mostly, it’s not even fair. If your dog would be big, it would not be acceptable. There is no reason it is acceptable because your dog is little.

Your little run-around-dog is bringing an energy of excitement and tenseness and it passes these on to the leashed dogs.

Please, if your dog does not obey the recall, if your dog chases other dogs, keep it on the leash. Better yet, do some “socializing training” with your dog. No one likes unruly mouthy dogs that get in the face of leashed dogs.

Try watching some of Cesar Millan’s Dog Whisperer Shows!

ps, I was walking through a park today, and as I said, if a dog behaves, and obeys the recall I don’t mind them being loose. But, today, this little dog came running up to my 2 leashed dogs, creating havoc. It’s not fair, we all need to play by the same rules.
