Why Do Dogs Drag Their Butts?
This is a regular question for dog owners. When dogs drag their butts on the carpet or outside on the grass, it means that their anal glands are bothering them. The anal sacks are located just inside the dog’s rectum.
They are there to “mark” the dog’s territory with his own special scent. But, when the anal glands are too full, dogs will try to empty them by dragging his/her bottom. Unless dogs drain their anal glands, it causes them pressure and pain.
Your veterinarian should include emptying his anal glands during yearly check up. In fact, veterinarians can show you how to do this yourself. It’s really easy and will be a great relief to your dog. And remember, always check any issues with your vet first!
