Nikki, Benny And Friend - Playing
I had my new dog, Shorty, at the vet today. Shorty is doing so good. As mentioned before, she did come with a few issues because she has been at the pound for a long time.
She has NO issues with people, just other dogs. She has evem totally bonded with my 4 year old Golden, Nikki. They are now a “pair”.
I have been doing a lot of studying about training. I NEVER had any issues with any of my other dogs
(except two of my dogs were thieves…they stole all kinds of stuff from me, including pillows).
I am amazed at how easy it can be to address and remove issues that adopted dogs come with. I was always scared, and worried about adopting because of this reason. I am glad now I did. All adopted dogs (or most) come with some problem. And, they can be solved and dealt with. It’s not really hard. Again, I suggest the following:
- Watch Cesar Millan, the Dog Whisperer On National Geographic Channel. Just watch 3 episodes at the very least.
- Take your dog to a live trainer, at least for a few sessions
- Teach yourself to handle your dog … I use Adams Dog Problems as one of my methods.
And most of all. Add a lot of your own gut feelings and inspirations into the above mixture!
Shorty was at the vet (back to the story) and, I made her lie down and stay with a little puppy prancing and yipping about the place. She did great. She stayed!!! I was so proud of her.
I even left her at the “stay” offleash, although at all times I was within leash grabbing distance.
I am using Cesar Millan’s dog collar. It’s great! Anyone who has a dog that is difficult to teach to heel or difficult to control, try Cesar’s (And Ilusions’ - his wife) collar.
Anyway, just wanted to update you on how my Shorty is progressing.
Gosh, I still cry hard for my Dukie and Benny. The love for another dog can be instant, but it never replaces, it only appends. That’s what is nice about love!
ps I promote Cesar because I believe in what he does. There is no other incentive here for me
