A Blind Dog In My House
These pages will tell stories of living with a blind dog. My dog is Dukie, a black lab, now 12 years old. He became blind gradually, over the period of a year.
He handled it so well, that I did not even know he was blind till I took him to the vet for his shots. At the vets he kept bumping into the walls. At that point he was 75% blind. The rest did not take long.
At first diagnosis I was so upset because I thought we had to put him down. But the vet said “no way, he can live a normal happy life”
And he was right. Because he went blind gradually and not suddenly, the vet said, he does not even realize something happened to him that should not have happened.
Dukie is a wonderfully adjusted dog. It was harder on me than him.
