Do you have free time, extra $, room in your home, a love for animals? If the answer is yes to any of these questions then take a look around your own community for different rescue groups. Give them a call, ask them how you can help!

Become a volunteer and get involved, find your niche! You can help with dog food, towels, toys. With dog walking, or playing with the pets. Are you a good trainer? Then help out with pet training. Whatever is YOUR personal ability, do it today. Google for groups in your community! Or, your local “Pound”.

A rescue group or rescue organization is dedicated to pet adoption. These groups take unwanted, abandoned, abused, or stray pets and attempt to find suitable new homes for them. Many rescue groups are created by and run by volunteers, who take the animals into their homes and care for them—including training, playing, handling medical issues, and solving behavior problems—until a suitable permanent home can be found.

Rescue groups exist for most types of pet—for example, rabbit rescue or bird rescue, but are most common for dogs and cats. For animals with many breed types, many rescue groups specialize in specific breeds or groups of breeds. For example, for dogs, there might be local Labrador Retriever rescue groups, hunting dog rescue groups, large-dog rescue groups, as well as general dog rescue groups.

Animal shelters often work closely with rescue groups, because shelters who have difficulty placing otherwise healthy and pet-worth animals would usually rather have the animal placed in a home than euthanized; while the shelters might run out of room, rescue groups can often find more volunteers with space in their homes for temporary placement.

Does your dog food have gluten in it?

I think you would be shocked at how many top (expensive too) brands of dog food have gluten, by products and preservatives in them.

Gluten: Gluten is the sticky substance inside wheat, barley and rye that hold things together like bread and pasta. etc. There are humans and dogs that have allergies or intolerances to gluten

Gluten is NOT meant for dogs to eat!

Unless of course you want to make your own food, then check this out!

Why do dogs like stuffed toys?

Golden retrievers have a special knack for stuffing their face with stuffed toys. They seem to be born with a craving for stuffed toys. I know my golden, Nikki, already had a penchant for stuffed toys at the age of six to eight weeks old.

She is an amazing Certified Therapy Dog but, she will steal resident’s stuffed toys if I would allow her to. Now, for those of you who are handy with the needle, you could remove the stuffing, and fill the toy with tough fabric instead, that way, it will last forever!

I think that dogs feel closer to being a dog when they actually have a stuffed toy in their mouth. They feel that they have caught it. They can carry it around, they can claim it, they can retrieve it (especially retrievers), and it’s theirs. And, it feels good to them. After a while, the smell of this stuffed toy becomes awful to us, but great to the dogs.

Depending on the breed you have, some dogs will kill the stuffed toys, some dogs will love it, sleep on it and snuggle with it. Retrievers will consistently have it in their mouth when you return home.Read the whole article here.
