Do Not Assume Your Dog Knows
Dogs are not stubborn by nature; But!!! They often have no clue what you really want from them. I have three dogs, and it’s true. Sometimes we think our dogs know what we want from them. They don’t. They often know what we DON’T want, but not necessarily what we DO want.
Make it clear to your dog, or puppy, what you want them to do (or not do).
When you are walking, talking, or whatever with your dog, constantly reinforce positively when they do something you want them to! Let them know in a clear and concise way.
Dogs naturally are nosy and explorers by nature. They want to sniff, dig and stick their noses where they do not belong.
When the dog is naturally running towards you, call “come”… What a great way to reinforce what you want them to do. When you see your dog starting to do something…reinforce it with the command-as they are doing it!
Also, your dog may truly not know it’s name. You may just think he does. Check it out, make sure he does. So many times we “assume” our dogs know something and they really don’t.
As owners, it is our duty to do the thinking for our dogs. That way, we will have a happy, safe and obedient dog!
