O.K. guys, let me tell you something here. I know that every morning you all go out for a nice long walk. Now I realize I am almost 13 years old, and I am blind. BUT, that is no reason to keep trying to sneak out without me.
A well trained dog will truly be your best friend,

You probably can tell by now that 80% of the time I NOTICE when you try to sneak out. So, give it up o.k. Take me along in the mornings and then if you want to go for a longer more vigorous walk, go for another longer walk in the day. Just cause I am older and blind does NOT mean I do not want to walk. So, give me a break and make sure you take me along from now on., o.k?

I got up; being the good dog trainer that I was at the time. And then I heard a moan from downstairs.
My husband has a mini living suite downstairs. Due to the MS he cannot handle light or noise. I ran down the stairs, and there he was, lying on the floor. He had fallen and could not get up. He then called up to Sammy, who was sleeping on the living room couch at the time, to “Go get Ruth, Sammy.”
And Sammy did.
From then on my husband knew he had found a goldmine. Whenever he wanted me, for any reason, he would tell Sammy to “Go get Ruth, Sammy.” And Sammy always did come and get me.
Just before my husband was taken to the rehab center he was being weaned off the morphine. And, he was one of the many who suffer terrible withdrawals and hallucinations. He was going through hell in his withdrawal one night, and the nurses never ever had the sensitivity to call me.
My husband’s room mate told me the next morning that all night long he kept calling for “A Sammy to get Ruth”; he wanted to know who Sammy was, because no Sammy ever visited till then.
I told him Sammy was my husband’s black lab, his best friend. I cried. And, when I think of that night I still cry. Why could the nurse not have called me? No, instead they let my husband cry out in anguish for his most faithful dog, who would have done everything in his power to “Get Ruth” for his master and friend.
