Denying a service dog access
Denying a service dog access to a building is in violation of federal law
Rather than risk being held in contempt of court, Bob Godfrey and his Golden Retriever, Jasmine, left the courtroom.
Epps had said, among other things, “ You ought to know better than to bring a dog into a ourtroom. That just really upsets me.”
Continuing to show his arrogance and ignorance of the law, later that day Epps wrote a memo to his bailiffs and security officers telling them no animals were to be allowed in his court without his approval.
Godfrey does not accept the apology, believing that the judge’s attitude was way out of line. He has an audiotape of the comments. When he files a formal complaint, the city will send the tape to the state’s office on Judicial Conduct.
I find it very scary when a judge does not even know the laws of who is allowed in his court. I think perhaps HE should be charged with contempt of court for what he has done. It is inexcusable behaviour!
